Tjariya Stanley First Nations Australian, b. 1939

Tjariya (Nungalka) Stanley is a Pitjantjatara woman, born in Irrunytju (Wingelina) in 1939. She paints for Ernabella Arts, APY Lands, imaging the Tjukurrpa stories and features of the landscape around her birthplace.

In this painting, Tjariya tells the story of two sisters, the older one travelling long distances along the Docker River to bring the younger sister back home. They both perform ceremony, inma, and both throw away their weapons and head-rings and move on to Kantarangkutjara.
